Understanding Generation Methods & Exporting Designs

Learn how to generate visuals in Abyssale and why we use Generation Methods instead of a standard download button.

Updated this week

Plan Availability Note

Please be aware that access to certain generation methods (such as API/Integrations, Spreadsheet or Dynamic Images) depends on your specific Abyssale subscription plan. If you do not see a specific method available in your dashboard or you are unable to use it, please check your plan details or contact support.

Where is the "Download" button?

If you have just finished designing your first design, you might be looking for a Download or Export button inside the editor. You won't find one, and that is by design!

To understand why, it helps to understand the core philosophy of Abyssale:

  • Traditional Design Tools: You design one visual and download one file.

  • Abyssale: You create a Design/Template (a blueprint) to generate hundreds or thousands of visuals automatically and/or instantly.

Because Abyssale separates the Design (the look) from the Content (text and images), we use Generation Methods to combine them and create your final files.

What is a Generation Method?

A Generation Method is simply the "bridge" you choose to send data into your design to create your final visuals.

Think of your design as a mold in a factory.

  • The Template: The mold defines the shape and design.

  • The Generation Method: The machine that pours material (data) into the mold to produce the final product (visuals).

The Different Generation Methods

Once you have saved your design, select a generation method on the left menu of your design, to choose how you want to create your visuals. Here are the main methods available:

Abyssale Spreadsheet (Batch Generation)

This method is ideal for creating a large volume of visuals at once using a CSV or our buil-in spreadsheet. You can generate hundreds of banners, PDFs, or videos in minutes. (Not available for Print multipage design)

  • Best for: E-commerce catalogs, real estate listings, bulk advertising campaigns.
(Not available for Print multipage design)

Abyssale Quick Generation (Form)

This is the best method for manual, one-off creation without opening the design editor. You fill out a simple form, and Abyssale renders the visual.

  • Best for: Enabling marketing teams or clients to create brand-compliant social posts on the fly.

Dynamic Images (URL)

This method allows you to generate visuals in real-time via a unique URL. By changing the parameters at the end of the link, the visual updates instantly. (Only work for Static Images. You cannot generate a Video via a URL link).

  • Best for: Personalized email marketing, dynamic website headers, landing pages.

API & Integrations (Zapier/Make/N8n)

Connect Abyssale to your favorite tools to fully automate your workflow. Trigger the creation of a visual based on events in other apps (e.g., a new Tweet, a Shopify product update, or a Typeform submission).

  • Best for: Fully automated "set it and forget it" workflows.

Summary: How to "Download" a single image

If you just want to test your design or download a single visual to see how it looks:

  1. Save your design.

  2. Select the Quick Generation method on the left menu of the overview page of your design

  3. Fill in your data and click Generate Visual.

  4. Download the result from the generated tasks list.
