Design for right-to-left and non-Latin languages

Display Arabic, Hebrew, Japanese, Chinese, Korean or Thai correctly: what is automatic, what to set, and which fonts to use.

Running campaigns in Arabic, Hebrew, Japanese or Thai means your designs must display other alphabets correctly. Abyssale renders right-to-left and non-Latin scripts in every generation method. This article explains what is automatic and what you set yourself.

DRAFT NOTE: add screenshot render-rtl-cjk-grid.jpg (screens/) here — Arabic, Hebrew, Japanese, Korean, Chinese and Thai renders.

Right-to-left languages (Arabic, Hebrew, Persian, Urdu)

What is automatic

  • Letters are joined and shaped correctly.

  • Words are displayed from right to left, including when the text contains a Latin word such as a brand name (for example "العودة إلى المدرسة مع Kube").

What you set yourself: alignment

Text alignment is not flipped automatically. A text layer aligned to the left stays aligned to the left when it receives Arabic or Hebrew text.

  1. Select the text layer in the Design Builder.

  2. Set the text alignment to right.

  3. Check the position of the other layers (logo, button) for a right-to-left reading order.

Tip: If you run the same campaign in left-to-right and right-to-left languages, keep a dedicated design (or format) for right-to-left markets, aligned to the right.

Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Thai and other scripts

These scripts are displayed correctly. If the font of your text layer doesn't contain some characters, Abyssale displays them with a fallback font, so no character is missing from your visual.

The fallback font may not match your brand style. To control the look, choose a font that covers the alphabet you use, for example:

Alphabet

Fonts available in Abyssale

Arabic

Hebrew

IBM Plex Sans Hebrew

Japanese

IBM Plex Sans JP

Korean

IBM Plex Sans KR

Chinese

ZCOOL KuaiLe

Thai

You can also upload your own brand font in each alphabet: custom fonts are available on all plans. See How to Add and Manage Custom Fonts.

Translate your texts

To produce these languages from an existing campaign, use AI Translation in the Spreadsheet (Pro plan and above, no AI credits used).

🧾 Things to note

  • Translated texts are often longer or shorter than the original. Use Text Auto Resize so they fit their box.

  • The Typewriting animation also works on Arabic and Hebrew text.

  • Always review one visual per language before generating a whole batch.
