Adding a Blur Effect to Image Layers

Learn how to apply and adjust blur intensity on image layers to enhance your designs and improve text readability.

Updated this week

Adding a blur effect to your images is a powerful way to create depth or ensure your overlaying text remains legible. In the Abyssale Design Editor, you can quickly toggle this effect and fine-tune its strength to suit your brand's aesthetic.

Key Limitations

Before we begin, please keep the following in mind:

Image Layers Only: The blur effect is currently available only for standard image layers.

Not Supported: This effect cannot be applied to Video layers or Logo layers at this time.

How to apply the Blur effect

Follow these simple steps to add blur to your image:

  1. Select your Image layer: In the design editor, click on the image layer you wish to modify.

  2. Locate the Blur Toggle: In the right-hand settings panel, scroll down to the Blur section.

  3. Enable the Effect: Click the toggle switch to turn the blur on (it will turn green when active).

  4. Adjust Intensity: Use the Intensity slider or enter a specific pixel ($px$) value in the numeric field to control how blurry the image appears.

Pro Tip: A light blur (between 5px and 15px) is often enough to make white text stand out without losing the context of the background image.

Troubleshooting

If you don't see the Blur option in the side panel, double-check that you have selected an Image layer and not a Shape, Logo, or Video layer.
