Using Safe Zones to Protect Your Designs from Social Media UI

Learn how to use Safe Zones in the Abyssale Design Editor to ensure your designs are always visible and not hidden by social media platform UI.

Updated over 2 weeks ago

What are Safe Zones?

When you design for social media platforms like Instagram or TikTok, the platform's user interface (UI), such as captions, "like" buttons, and comments, can sometimes cover important parts of your design.

The Safe Zones feature in Abyssale helps you prevent this by adding a visual overlay to your canvas. This overlay shows you the "safe area" where your key content should be placed to ensure it is always visible.

The Safe Zone overlay is only visible in the design editor and does not affect your final image or output file.

How to Use Safe Zones

Enabling the Safe Zones overlay is a quick and easy way to protect your content.

  1. Select and edit your design to enter the Design Editor

  2. Click the Zoom percentage dropdown menu in the top right corner of the editor

  3. In the menu, simply toggle on the Enable safe zones option.

Once enabled, a translucent red overlay will appear on your canvas, highlighting the areas where platform UI elements might obscure your content.

Formats with Safe Zone Support

The Safe Zone overlay is intelligently designed to appear only on formats where it is needed. It automatically displays on the following social media formats:

  • Instagram

    • Stories: 1080 x 1920 px

    • Reels: 1080 x 1920 px

    • Feed (Landscape): 1200 x 628 px

    • Portrait: 1080 x 1350 px

    • Post (Square): 1080 x 1080 px

  • Facebook

    • Stories: 1080 x 1920 px

    • Reels: 1080 x 1920 px

    • Feed (Landscape): 1200 x 628 px

    • Portrait: 1080 x 1350 px

    • Post (Square): 1080 x 1080 px

  • TikTok

    • In-Feed Video: 1080 x 1920 px

  • YouTube

    • Shorts: 1080 x 1920 px

    • Video: 1920 x 1080 px

  • Snapchat

    • Stories: 1080 x 1920 px

Note: For any other format, the overlay will not be displayed, even if the feature is toggled on, because there are no known "dead zones" to avoid.

Disabling Safe Zones

To disable the overlay, simply follow the same steps and toggle the Enable safe zones option off from the dropdown menu.

We hope this new feature helps you design with confidence, knowing your message will always be seen!
